The Sustainability Team is part of the Community Development Agency and performs work to support healthy, safe, and sustainable communities while preserving Marin’s unique environmental heritage. Their programs promote renewable energy, address climate change, encourage green building, recognize green businesses, and implement energy efficiency projects throughout Marin County.

ABOUT THE POSITION: The Sustainability Program Coordinator will coordinate the daily operations of multiple sustainability related programs that will assist the County in achieving its Climate Action Plan goals. Programs will include the Marin County Green Business recognition program, the Bay Area Regional Energy Network’s commercial energy efficiency program, and the County’s Electrify Marin rebate program. The Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring that

program goals and objectives are met in accordance with established policies, timeframes, and funding limitations. The Coordinator will conduct outreach and education around the programs and will build support and understanding for the programs among community stakeholders. The Coordinator will also manage data collection and reporting on the programs. Additionally, the position may also work with Sustainability Team members to identify and develop new programs

that assist with achieving the County’s Climate Action Plan goals including identifying and applying for grants to support the work. The position may also supervise interns and volunteers in the implementation of programs.

ABOUT YOU

THE HIGHLY QUALIFIED CANDIDATE: The ideal candidate possesses prior experience in outreach and education to the public in the areas of energy and sustainability. The candidate will have some experience developing outreach, education, and marketing plans and materials. The ideal candidate will be customer-service oriented with effective public speaking skills and the ability to engage different audiences on a variety of topics. The ideal candidate can use software to create effective marketing and outreach materials as well as to collect, tabulate, and analyze program participation data and report on progress. The candidate also has the ability to track andinterpret legislation that could impact their assigned program. The ideal candidate can monitor grant funding opportunities and assist in the preparation of grant applications and reports.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR PROGRAM COORDINATOR:

KNOWLEDGE OF

• Principles of program planning, reporting and evaluation.

• Policies and procedures related to assigned program.

• Community resources for the provision of energy, sustainability, and related services.

• Computer applications related to the work.

ABILITY TO

• Plan and coordinate program; initiate, plan, and coordinate program objectives.

• Persuade and motivate people while demonstrating interpersonal and cultural sensitivity.

• Translate technical information into information accessible to the layperson.

• Interpret, explain, and apply rules and regulations.

• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with program participants, staff, volunteers, and community groups from a variety of social, cultural, and economic backgrounds.

• Develop and monitor program performance measurements.

• Coordinate, facilitate, and conduct public and stakeholder meetings.

• Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS The equivalent to graduation from an accredited college with an Associate's degree in a field closely related to the assigned program(s) and two years of experience providing community, educational, rehabilitative, or counseling services including responsibility for planning and implementing programs and coordinating with community resources. Additional related experience may substitute for the education on a year for year basis.

*Bilingual Testing/Certification: A bilingual proficiency exam will be administered to ensure the candidates possess the appropriate skill level to meet the requirements.

Testing and Eligible List: Depending on the number of qualified applications received, the examination may consist of a highly qualified review, application screening, online assessment, written examination, oral examination, performance examination, or any combination to determine which candidates' names will be placed on the eligible list.

The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancy and any future vacancies for open, fixed-term, full-time or part-time positions which may occur while the list remains active.

Background Process: Successful candidates will be subject to a background investigation, including fingerprinting, prior to appointment.

Disaster Service Workers: All County of Marin employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109).

Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
