AIM Farmers Markets Remain Open
COVID-19 Guidelines for AIM Farmers Markets
Guía COVID-19 para Mercados de AIM
AIM plans to continue to operate our 7 certified farmers’ markets regularly for the foreseeable future in East Bay, Marin, and San Francisco as they provide a critical platform for our farmers and producers to sell to local communities. We believe that farmer’s markets are essential community services, especially now when people need access to healthy fruits and vegetables, and other wholesome foods.
As concerns about the spread of COVID-19 (known as Coronavirus) grow, we are all working diligently to respond through modified operations, additional communications, and, as needed, contingency plans. AIM Market Staff have developed a thorough health and safety protocol for our markets (including sanitizing equipment and frequently touched areas) going above and beyond the standard requirements set forth by local health departments. We will have hand washing stations and hand sanitizers. We will not setup café tables and chairs and expect food to be sold to-go. We will continue to protect our small farmers, food businesses, artisans, and the shopping public, including those who use EBT/CalFresh.
An open-air source of food is considered “low-risk” compared to a confined grocery store, and people circulate throughout the day at the market. Plus, food that has traveled a shorter distance with fewer hands touching or processing it is a safer alternative to imported products or those from industrial agriculture.
