Rollin’ Root honored with “Excellence in Innovation Award”
On January 7th, AIM’s Rollin’ Root mobile food truck won the award for “Excellence in Innovation" from the Center for Volunteer & Nonprofit Leadership’s 28th Annual Heart of Marin Awards. We are thrilled to be among an amazing group of nonprofits honored this year.
The Rollin’ Root is a mobile farmers market that brings fresh, locally grown produce and nutrition education directly to communities experiencing economic and transportation barriers to accessing the traditional farmers market. The Rollin’ Root focuses on bringing affordable produce to low-income older adults where they live. The Rollin’ Root currently makes 11 stops and serves about 160 people each week.
Karimah Hay, Rollin’ Root Manager, shared what she has appreciated most about the program lately:
“My favorite thing about the Rollin Root is being able to bring people together, especially in a time like this when this might be the only time people are able to see their friends. Even if it is 6ft away and with a mask on, just being able to see the glow in their eyes is such a good feeling. One thing I think is important about the Rollin Root is that it comes directly to communities, customers barely even have to leave their homes and have access to fresh, local and organic produce.”
Thanks Karimah! And a big thank you to all our community partners and Rollin’ Root shoppers who make this program a success. We’re honored to serve you.
