Harvesting Memories: Farm Day 2024

Thursday, March 14, 2024

It was a day of discovery, and a whole lot of “green” thinking at Marin County Farm Day 2024, held at the Marin Center Exhibit Hall on March 14th. We were joined by curious minds and food enthusiasts with a host of Northern California ranchers, farmers, producers, and educators gathered to spark the young minds about where their food comes from.

The Agricultural Institute of Marin proudly participated in and sponsored the incredibly successful and well-attended 2024 Marin County Farm Day in partnership with the Marin County Farm Bureau, the University of California Cooperative Extension (Marin), the Marin Center, and many others.

Over 2,000 eager children, along with their parents and teachers, explored a variety of exhibits and hands-on activities. Children petted cows, goats, sheep, and rabbits and dove into interactive exhibits on farm animals, gardens, environmental education, and the vital role of agriculture in Marin County.

From Venetia Valley Elementary students walking to the event to Hamilton Elementary kids riding the Smart train, Farm Day brought together young minds from across Marin County to celebrate agriculture and healthy eating.

AIM's Farm Day focus was "Eat the Rainbow" where children got to learn about the importance of a colorful diet and how it benefits their health.

Below is our very own Mr. Green Jeans, Tyler Thayer, debating the original color of the carrot with an enthusiastic young student. AIM CEO Andy Naja-Riese got in on the action as his alter-ego, Captain Carrot, and was amazed at the number of students who immediately pointed out that the nutrients he provides improve their eye health!

"Eating the Rainbow" is part of our Diggin' Education curriculum which focuses on teaching students of all ages about their local food system, including our local farms and farmers, and how to make healthy food choices.

It was a day of growth, learning, and, of course, plenty of farm-fresh fun!

AIM proudly sponsored Farm Day 2024.
