Woodleaf has been certified organic for 32 years and is one of the oldest organic farms in California. Fields are nestled among 26 acres of native oak forest in the Sierra foothills of northern California. The farm, owned by Carl Rosato and Helen Atthowe uses an ecological approach to soil and pest management with reduced tillage and living mulches to cycle nutrients and provide beneficial insect habitat. Woodleaf uses gravity flow irrigation, 100% solar power, low energy buildings, and cats for gopher control. In February 2012, Woodleaf farm was recognized with a Steward of Sustainable Agriculture Award, at the 32nd Annual EcoFarm Conference.
