Leah Smith

Development Director

Leah Smith has returned to AIM to provide leadership to our development efforts as the Director of Development, leading both our capital campaign and program fundraising efforts. Her focus will be on generating financial support for the permanent farmers market and Center for Food and Agriculture project, while simultaneously supporting our education and mobile farmers market initiatives.

Prior to returning to AIM, Leah served as Fresh Approach’s Executive Director and then as their Director of Strategic Partnerships over the last 3+ years. (Fresh Approach is a Bay Area food access and nutrition education organization, which operates a mobile farmers’ market program similar to Rollin’ Roots.) During her tenure at Fresh Approach, she led the doubling of the organization’s budget to now more than $1M, significantly grew program impacts and more than doubled the staff. She developed a three-year strategic plan and a fundraising plan, and led Fresh Approach’s individual giving campaigns, built corporate partnerships, grew the number of grants received, and increased donations in support of its mission.

Leah has a long standing, demonstrated commitment to California farmers and certified farmers’ markets, improving food access and equity, increasing agricultural education, promoting community health, and supporting sustainable, local food systems. She has worn many hats, first coming to Marin in 1999 to work at Slide Ranch. She brings a wealth of experience to AIM, drawing from her work at Marin Agricultural Land Trust helping to preserve farmland, her experience as the Director of the Marin Food Systems Project bringing healthy local food to schools, and now builds on her 9 years as AIM’s former Director of Programs, where she helped develop and fund AIM’s education, equity and farm audit programs. Leah also has served on the following committees: California Certified Farmers Market Advisory Committee, the HEAL Steering Committee, the Marin Food Policy Council and the California Alliance of Farmers Markets.

With Leah’s leadership, skills and expertise, we look forward to building an even stronger organization together.
