Harvest Talk: CalFresh Awareness
May 18 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am
Overview: Did you know the Grand Lake Farmers Market is one the top 100 redeemers of CalFresh (California’s name for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) at a farmers market in the country? In recognition of May as CalFresh Awareness Month, hear from two leaders in California and nationally on CalFresh, as a California farmer, to share their stories about why CalFresh is an important safety next program. During these talks, you’ll learn about recent policy efforts and challenges affecting CalFresh enrollment. You’ll also learn of the role technology plays in making government services more accessible through the nationally-recognized application “GetCalFresh.Org.” Lastly, hear from a farmer who is a champion of CalFresh who will describe why CalFresh and Market Match incentives make California-grown produce more affordable to individuals experiencing hunger.
